Sedition: conduct or speech inciting people to rebel against authority.
Free speech is no longer free. We have, quite literally, created laws to criminalize it.

LTC Eugene Chu
Read the quote. It was not about him expressing personal opinion. His crime was bringing weapons and entering a government building during a restricted time to explicitly stop peaceful and legal transfer of power.

SFC Casey O'Mally
LTC Eugene Chu And what was he charged with and convicted of? Seditious conspiracy.
His CRIME according to the law was encouraging others to rebel. Which is speech. Which we have literally criminalized.
I am not saying they were in the right or blameless. Criminal trespass, obstruction of Congress, robbery (read the definition, it actually fits if he was armed), any number of crimes they committed and which SHOULD BE crimes.
But speech, no matter how heinous, is supposed to be protected.
