OK, so he is a nut job that got his hands on some weapons. Luckily nobody got hurt. Yet, what about the hundreds of Criminals who still get their hands on various weapons? You know the felons in possession of firearms and only get a slap on the hand and they are back out there with more weapons. Or what about the criminals who are released on cashless bail and commit additional crimes?

Hmmm... Probably good that this guy was arrested, but I really have to wonder how and why.

The article doesn't really give any reason. According to the story, he stopped at a preschool and asked to use the bathroom. They didn't let him and called the police. Hopefully there was a reason they called the police, but nothing in the article actually says so. The article focuses on the scary rifle he had in the car, but there is no indication that anyone knew there was a gun in the car until long afterwards.

Perhaps they called the police because he was "incoherent" but nothing says that and there is a lot missing to get us from Guy-Stops-At-School-And-Asks-To-Use-Bathroom to Police-Have-Probable-Cause-To-Get-A-Search-Warrant-And-Then-Find-Gun-In-His-Car

What CRIME was he suspected of BEFORE the gun was found? Being incoherent isn't a crime. It might be grounds for a Mental Inquest Warrant, which might result in "Inventorying" his vehicle, but the article says the police had a search warrant. A search warrant requires (or is supposed to require) probable cause to believe they will find specific evidence of a specific crime.
