Unfortunately, this will also affect those who have the need to know and legit requirements in getting what they need in an expedited manner. I hope they implement ways to address that too.

Yes, I could see that as a problem.

I agree but the problem is not the rules, it's the people not following them and accountability within the system.

CMSgt (Join to see) The rules can be a problem when people interpret them poorly or simply do not agree with legitimate need to know. So now more layers are going to be applied and this will affect the ability for some to do their jobs effectively. What happened with this Airman does not all fall squarely on him. Several people potentially dropped the ball. Supervisors, leadership, and even security all had a role which could have prevented this or discovered it before the rest of the world did. All that with the rules we already have in place. So as I said, now there will be more rules, which may prevent more leaks from occurring, but at the cost of prevent more legitimate access request from happening.

Gonna probably get some pushback but my experience was Nat'l Guard units were not the best at enforcing rules. Stagnation results in the Good ole boy syndrome. I traveled with Command and AF-level threat assessment teams and the Guard seemed to always be behind the power curve. Part of the problem was limited resources but culture definitely contributed to shortfalls.

Note: Air National Guard units specifically.

I would agree to a point. But the Guards mindset changed drastically with the burdens of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.
