Note carefully the critical parts of that press release:
"has pleaded guilty"
and
"faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and/or a fine of $250,000."
What that means is that he was a real criminal, therefore the US Attorney prosecuting the case offered him a sweetheart plea deal that ignored most of his crimes in exchange for a guilty plea on one minor offense. He would have been facing roughly two centuries of jail time if convicted on all charges listed in the article.

I have no problem with marijuana be among the various medicinal drugs, but why did legislators have to okay it for recreational use.
