Most people think of powering tanks and fighting vehicles etc. I wonder about supplying the war fighters. I remember the Red Ball Express after the Normandy invasion break out. How could we have that tempo of logistical support with out a tremendous electrical grid to support the effort? At this point in time China controls over 60% of rare earth metals required for electric vehicle production. China is our rival on the world stage aiding Russia, threatening Taiwan, forming alliances with our former allies like Saudi Arabia, and seeking to over throw the US dollar as the world reserve currency. Why would the US seek to increase the wealth of China and their power. It is my opinion people in the Biden administration are crazy!

TMP fleet? Sure. Bad idea, but fine. Non-tactical "tactical" vehicles like soft sided HMMWVs? Worse idea, but not disastrous.
But combat vehicles? Unless you have easily removable batteries AND a huge stockpile so that each vehicle can carry a couple spares, with plenty leftover for the supply trains, you are going to be combat ineffective before you ever make it to combat.
For all their furl inefficiency, current combat vehicles are very easily refueled. A tanker truck can roll up and get a full company rolling in half an hour. If we cannot reproduce that capacity, or something very close to it, we are taking a huge step backwards in combat capability.
But combat vehicles? Unless you have easily removable batteries AND a huge stockpile so that each vehicle can carry a couple spares, with plenty leftover for the supply trains, you are going to be combat ineffective before you ever make it to combat.

I was wondering about supply vehicles. The Red Ball expressed burned more fuel than it delivered! . How do you do that with battery operated vehicles?

LTC David Brown You would need some kind of "super-battery" truck with multiple charging ports. Hook up 10 trucks, leave them 30 minutes for a fast charge, and roll out.
I cannot imagine how big of a hazard that truck would be. You think tankers are a big target for gig "gobooms", imagine that superbattery. Then add in it is likely to be lithium, which means almost impossible to put out...
Yeah, we aren't there technologically, and it is pretty much unthinkable we will be there in 7 years. Maybe in 27 for 2050. But 2030? Not bloody likely.
