CPT Jack Durish - Shell Shock is the name that was given to the condition and symptoms that we now call PTSD. IF it weren't for knowing about Shell Shock, we would not have a definition for PTSD. The term PTSD did not exist until 1982, so all we had was a term that could be used as a "diagnosis" for a group of symptoms not associated with anything medical per say. The ancestor of Shell Shock was the Civil War identification of Soldier's Heart. BTW, I know Dave Grossman and have the original edition of this book.
