The decisions you make may affect not only your career, but those who Serve under you and those who observe the military community at large (civilians). Consistent news about alleged misconduct at all levels does not bode well for recruiting and retention efforts. Everybody sees these events or hears about them in various forums and in this modern age, word spreads like wildfire on multiple levels.
Get with the program, leaders. Your job is A LOT tougher these days. Remain professional, stay within regulatory bounds, and build positive relationships with those who are in your support channel. Empower those who serve under you to always seek collaborative means of accomplishing a mission while also maintaining a high moral and ethical standard. Hold people accountable for their actions as well. The good old days where things could be swept under the rug so to speak are over. Always question if what you are doing is illegal, unethical, or immoral. Consider it a Howey Test for leadership.
Take what you want from the musings of an old and crusty Master Sergeant. Have a good day!
