WILDWOOD, Fla. – Today, Governor Ron DeSantis announced the Stop the Wrongs to Our Kids and Employees (W.O.K.E.) Act, a legislative proposal that will give businesses, employees, children and families tools to fight back against woke indoctrination.

The Stop W.O.K.E. Act will be the strongest legislation of its kind in the nation and will take on both corporate wokeness and Critical Race Theory.

Today’s proposal builds on actions Governor DeSantis has already taken to ban Critical Race Theory and the New York Times’ 1619 project in Florida’s schools. For more information about the Stop W.O.K.E. Act, click here.

Burying history to protect white people’s feelings won’t work

Ron DeSantis and his GOP allies are pushing a bill in the Florida legislature that would prohibit public schools and private businesses from teaching or training about racism in ways that make white people squirm.

Civil rights icon Ruby Bridges Hall discusses Norman Rockwell's famous painting

Ruby Bridges became a civil rights icon when she was 6.

Yet she didn't realize it for decades.

The world knows her as the little girl in Norman Rockwell's famous 1963 painting, The Problem We All Live With, a black child being escorted to a white New Orleans school by federal marshals.

We are all Americans. I don't think that creating a course on one version of history creates any kind of unity. We have a shared history, whether good or bad, that built this country. Bringing race into everything creates more division after all the years of turmoil regarding race.

IMO, it is not a matter of "bringing race into everything." It is a matter of teaching our history accurately and presenting all cultural versions. I am sure the history of European settlement of the continent is much different than the history of those brought here in chains, or the history of those peoples that were here when the Europeans arrived.
I am always thrilled when I have the opportunity to listen to some on my in-laws relate some of their cultural history.
