Good article LTC Kevin B..
While politics and media spoon feed people into believing that "the other side is completely wrong and the masks ___________ ('work' or 'don't work')" the science is doing what the science is supposed to do - keep exploring because when there is a large body of evidence that contradict your conclusions, the body of evidence has to be examined and the conclusions have to be reconsidered using that evidence.

For those who are health compromised and who display insufficient immune responses it can be a life saver.

Over a year ago Mayo Clinic advised that the right face masks help slow the spread of the virus that causes coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Yes. Face masks combined with other preventive measures, such as getting vaccinated, frequent hand-washing, and physical distancing can help slow the spread of the virus that causes COVID-19. Much of the data came from the CDC which has since presented improved data based on additional data that has become available. The mask that was deemed effective was the nonsurgical N95, (not the ones made in China), and for the most protection the KN95. The cloth and thin paper masks that we wear at the VA are virtually worthless for several reasons.
LTC Kevin B. offers current views on the subject. It is interesting to read the differences between the Mayo report based on the CDC data, and the current article presented here. Thanks for the information - An interesting read.
