The Javelin Missile has a range around 2,500 meters which is around 1.5 miles. It is virtually impossible to spot infantrymen with Javelins at that distance and much lesser distances from a tank even if the tank is using thermal imaging. Disciplined infantrymen will limit their heat signature by using cover and concealment. It is a very accurate missile and is fire and forget.

You don't want to travel in tanks in a column formation if enemy contact is possible and probable. The greatest sin is attacking in a column formation. This means the enemy can mass fires on the column and the fields of fire of the tanks are limited. Only the lead tank can fire forward. The other tanks are relegated to shooting right or left.

I have expressed two reasons why Russian tanks are getting killed. I don't know enough about the reliability of the tanks to comment.
