"Miami's airport also worked to get gunowners' attention. The airport's director told Congress last year that after setting a gun interception record in 2021 they installed high-visibility signage and worked with airlines to warn passengers. He said the number of firearms intercepted declined sharply."
I think that's the #1 thing that has to be done. Many are not trying to get a firearm though security and just forget that it was packed and/or on their person.
But, as the airport director said, "signage is only part of the solution. Travelers face a barrage of signs or announcements already and don't always pay attention." - information overload.
While not a gun confiscation, I've lost three Gerbers in my younger days because I forgot they were on my belt when I went through security at the Airport (two) and a cruise (one ... that one I never did figure out... I could buy one in the gift shop on the ship, but I couldn't bring one onto it!?).

I never carry a firearm in checked baggage when flying. If for some reason you diverted to NY, once you take possession of your luggage you will likely be arrested and charged with possession. Not worth the risk. I won’t even drive through NY or NJ even with a firearm unloaded and in a lock box with ammo separated from where the firearm is.
