Lt Col John (Jack) Christensen, investing in emerging clean energy research and refinement/expansion of existing energy technologies is sensible. The problem (like with almost everything else) becomes the extremes.

The extremes on one side want to get rid of all fossil fuels now and act like the technology is where it should be today. The extremes on the other side say it's worthless to invest in because the feasible/affordable technology doesn't exist yet.

Add to this is that anything that isn't 100% supporting their message is usually discarded by advocates ... in other words, they treat a discussion as a debate and only talk about things that will support their argument instead of having a rational discussion. For example - in the last 10 years, EVs saved about 690 million gallons of gasoline! ... however the fact that >60% of the energy on the grid is created by fossil fuels is never mentioned in that discussion because it detracts from the 690 million gallon figure.

I think we should invest in energy research for a better tomorrow, but that doesn't me we ignore the realities and demands of today.

For myself, I pretty much dismiss and stop listening to people that want to implement something like the GND when they avoid discussing clean energy technologies that exists today and can do a huge stride towards reducing reliance on fossil fuels in our grid - nuclear and geothermal.

I agree 100%. It seems like extremes control everything these days. Or at least that's all we hear about.

Hopefully prices come down because remember the guy who blew up his 2013 Tesla because the battery was going to cost over $20,000 to replace!
