I can't understand why this is a problem for the companies, other than the greed of the owners and investors. As a Union worker in the skilled trades Sick days were always a part of the package until the turn of the century(21st). Active duty types don't have to work if they're sick. You go on sick call and if the Dr. thinks your too sick or contagious, a restriction to quarters is written and you go home to barf in the toilet or trash can and don't expose your section to whatever you've got. There will be a few folks that abuse it, I've known a few over the years that watched their calendars so they'd know when they could take their next day off. So I'm for a stipulation that a Dr.'s note be included in the package, not making the rank and file criminals. Most folks don't play the calendar game and will come to work with sniffles and GI upsets. If the ability to strike, as a redress of grievances is removed, it's just another step in the direction of tyranny. It probably won't stop the members from walking off anyway, and might cause a larger across the board labor problem.
I'm very interested to see who votes how in the Hallowed Halls.
