A Canadian commander in Latvia giving his situation report.
Canada has an exercise called Maple Resolve every year before they send a rotation to Latvia.
I participated in the administrative aspects of Canada's large exercise in 2018 and 2019. I was an OC/T supervisor for USAR OC/Ts in 2018 and later a double-slotted Deputy Commander of a US Army Regional Support Group ( a Logistics Brigade) that helped with the admininistrative in- processing and out- processing of all active component National Guard and Reserve component US forces (including the US Marine Corps Reserve) during the 2019 Exercise.
Personally, I think Canada's military is stretched to the Limit. Their Reserve component is gutted because they don't have enough non-commissioned officers or officers to help train some of the reserve component.
Prime Minister Trudeau and his government have not met the goal of a 2% GDP for Defense.
Canada is way behind on replacing its aging and shrinking navy. Canada bought used F-18 hanger Queens from Australia instead of purchasing the F-35 and was spiteful and not wanting to buy the F-18 Super Hornet ( as a stopgap measure) after the US government unsuccessfully accused Bombardier of being subsidized by the Canadian government.
President Trump was vilified by the Democrats and put down by NATO allies with a sore Papa because they knew president Trump was correct that the US was subsidizing much of their defense and they were not pulling their Fair share.
Most of the remaining War stock ammunition and Hardware from Canada and many other countries have been depleted and sent to Ukraine to help stop the Russian advance.
The US government cares more about climate change than it cares about improving its defensive posture. President Biden gave a 5% increase to the US military budget but we've already had 8% plus inflation and the cost of fuel has gone up 50%.
The United States military Readiness is not that far ahead of Canada and other NATO countries that don't contribute their 2% of GDP like they're supposed to.
