To be energy independent America needs two things, increase oil production and increased refining capacity. If you want to do away with animal protein you need more fertilizer. If you don’t have animals producing it you need petroleum. America moves on fossil fuels. Look at the trucks on the free ways. They bring you your food, clothes, heating oil, propane, gas etc. America can’t move on solar panels, wind mills, and pixie dust. America needs more refining capacity to meet our food production needs, home heating needs, economic needs etc. oil companies will not invest in building high capacity refineries because they cost $billions of dollars, take a decade to build and our government’s shifting policies concerning oil creating fears the investment would be wasted. Perhaps, in order to provide stability America needs to guarantee loans for increasing refining capacity in America.
