Capt Gregory Prickett -
"But the missive also signals how aggressively Democrats are engaging in GOP primaries this year. In next week’s GOP primary for governor in Maryland, for example, the Democratic Governors Association has outspent term-limited Republican Gov. Larry Hogan’s preferred successor with messaging that could boost another Trump-backed candidate."
The headline is very poorly worded - as most political headlines are.
So yes, the specific allegation is not proven here.
The Democrats are specifically funding GOP Trump candidates, but they are spending on funding to SUPPORT them.
Kind of like a lot of PACs operate - they don't actually give money to the candidate, but they spend their money to support them all the same.
In these cases, the Democratic party itself (or at least branches of it) are operating as PACs for GOP candidates.

SFC Casey O'Mally - Both parties have done that for decades, the assertion was that the Dems were directly contributing to the GOP candidate that they prefer to run against. For example, LBJ wanted to face Goldwater instead of Rockefeller in the 1964 election, but did not donate to the Goldwater campaign.

Capt Gregory Prickett - I won't deny that. I think the big difference here is that the Democrats are decrying MAGA candidates as a clear and present danger to democracy and the very existence of America as we know it - while at the exact same time working to help them win their primaries.
If MAGA candidates are THAT big of a threat to democracy, shouldn't the Democrats be working against them at every step of the process?

But we are told MAGA Republicans are a THREAT to American Democracy. That s like the Weimar Republic funding the NAZI when they were inconsequential if the Democrats believed their own rhetoric.
