I had read and still have the book of that account, "Alive" that tells of the crash and their ordeal. Not giving up what otherwise would have been death for each and every one of them didn't end that way and some did survive as a result. It's interesting hearing from a survivor how life was able to go on after a horrible near death experience such as that.
One thing that is interest, My younger brother had been flying as passenger on a Peruvian Air Force C47 Aircraft between the peaks of the Andes when one of the two engines on the prop driven aircraft quit. They were able to return and make a safe landing but that was certainly on their minds. The reason He was there was being part of the IACE, International Air Cadet Exchange, as a Cadet representing the United States. Pero had also sent an equal number of Cadets and escorts to the United States on the IACE. this exchange had been done with 46 countries including Peru. I had also years later gone on the IACE as an escort with US Cadets to the Republic of China, Taiwan.
