The Big Sleep, (1946) starring Humphrey Bogart as Phillip Marlowe, a detective (or “shamus, private dick” as he referred to himself) who is trying to fix blackmail problems for a wealthy family, and finds himself also solving disappearances and murder. The movie also stars Bogart’s real life wife, Lauren Bacall, with whom he humorously jousts with.
This film was adapted from a 1939 novel by Raymond Chandler.
