Pakistan is a Muslim country and as such, the divorce law in Pakistan and Talaq Law in Pakistan is governed by the Muslim Personal Law. Under the Muslim Personal Law, there are two types of divorce - Talaq and Khula. Talaq is the divorce initiated by the husband, whereas Khula is the divorce initiated by the wife. The procedure for Talaq is that the husband must pronounce the word "Talaq" thrice in front of two witnesses. After pronouncing Talaq, the husband and wife are considered divorced and there is a waiting period of iddah during which the husband and wife cannot remarry. The procedure for Khula is that the wife must approach the court and obtain a divorce decree from the court. Once the decree is obtained, the wife must serve it on the husband.
