It's pretty clear what the goal of doing this sort of thing is. and Yes it's about control of everybody, NOT jus those that actually shouldn't be able to purchase, ie: those with violent criminal records, mental health problems and Yes even those that with ineffective enforcement and prosecution for actual criminal acts NOT being punished or removed from society in many cases. If current laws are NOT enforced due to failures by prosecutors and courts to ignore their role in upholding the law it's easier to shift the blame elsewhere. Millions of firearms owner Do obey the law but the criminals that don't and aren't punished and are repeat offenders much of the time haven't been the target, just the excuse to persecute everyone else and put even more people at fear for their own lives.
