I'm glad the engine fires didn't happen when I flew on the CH 47 While flying from Balad airport to some base I think it was called war horse.
This was in November of 2004. We were flying low and fast and all the pilots and load masters we're wearing night and vision goggles and had weapons at the ready on the side and on the rear of the chopper. When the chopper landed, the flares got cooked off got cooked off and I thought we were shot at by an RPG by and RPG but it was just the defensive measures of the helicopter. We were packed in tight with our primary Duffle bag.
