Why is the former White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney in two minds? The fact that the former POTUS removed TS-SCI documents from the White House to an insecure personal abode is wrong. The President had ordered declassification of these documents is not the issue; the issue is that these highly classified documents were still sensitive. Mulvaney claims that if Trump did not feel that removing classified documents from the White House was not of personal interest to him then, the former President would not have removed these SCI documents. What was Trump's personal interest in those SCI documents; what was his intentions for removing them from the security of the White House to Mar-a-Lago, a personal retreat? Earlier, Mulvaney had suggested that Trump could use these sensitive classified documents to hedge his reelection bid in 2020 or 2024.
Mulvaney also suggests that the raids on Mar-a-Lago to retrieve these highly sensitive documents may not have been necessary. Since Trump was not cooperating with his successor, Federal authorities and prosecutors, retrieving the classified documents from Mar-a-Lago may have proved impossible or at best delayed, as I see it. TS-SCI documents are never to be removed from secured facilities and are definitely not authorized in private homes.
I am wondering whether Mulvaney is sticking to his story while inserting an angle of doubt on whether raids were necessary to protect himself against the Wrath of the Don.
