The 2020 murder of Spc. Vanessa Guillén and the national outcry that followed helped shed a light on the widespread problem of sexual misconduct in the military.
The 20-year-old was murdered by another soldier while stationed at Fort Hood, Texas, after experiencing sexual harassment. Her family has said she did not report those incidents for fear of retaliation, though a U.S. Army investigation later found that she reported being sexually harassed twice. (The vast majority of such cases go unreported, many for this same reason.)

I understand the reticence of victims to report this. As to source of the culture at Ft Hood, no easy task. This will take a long time

I was stationed at Ft Hood from 1993 to 1995 and I will say some men cannot keep their words to themselves. I hated being alone in those dorms we had. Never felt safe except when we were in groups. I would stay in my room unless I had one of my guy or female friends to come get me. I would stay in my BDU and once I got somewhere that's when I got dressed in my civilian clothes. It wasn't just Ft Hood. It was in Basic Training too. I could of reported them but didn't. I wanted to tell one Drill Sgt Hammerick who was a D&C for the unknown soldier before becoming a Drill Sgt. He was there maybe 2 days of the week. It is not all men just wanted to state that. It's 10% of the military and anyone could get the same treatment in the Civilian world too just saying
