James Garner did some of his own driving. The insurance company was frantic.

I made some of the Grand Prix circuit in '66, '67; and part of '68. Saw a lot of those mentioned in this article race. A real thrill.
Side note, I watched the 24 Hours of Lemans, 1967 where Dan Gurney won with co-driver A. J. Foyt. (different cars, still great racing)
Sadly I witnessed the death of Jimmy Clark, one of the best drivers in the world at Hockenheim, West Germany in 1968. At the time of his death, aged 32, he had won more Grand Prix races (25) and achieved more Grand Prix pole positions (33) than any other driver. In 2009, The Times placed Clark at the top of a list of the greatest-ever Formula One drivers.
So, some of the great, some of the tragic.

Loved European auto racing. Made every race I could.

Stan, thank you for giving me your historical narrative and sorry about the tragedy you witnessed. I hope you can see the movie free on YouTube. Like I said, you may have to open it up outside of Rally Point because when it's rerouted, it will say not available in your country. I'm sure you've seen this movie a million times but it's good to know that it's free for the younger generation to see before special effects and CGI.

Yes, they mentioned in the article that Lloyds of London cancelled his policy and he was filming part of it without insurance. I like how the article stated that Enzo Ferrari did not want Ferrari or anything to do with the movie until they brought him a one hour early cut of the movie and then Enzo Ferrari supported the film completely.

LTC (Join to see) - The tragedy I witnessed was a tragedy for the racing world.

For everyone's information, Pau Newman was another movie celebrity that raced autos.
