There are several very important take-aways from this story:

1) Today, people willing to endanger themselves to protect those weaker are rare.

2) For the most part, violence today is random.

3) The police are 15 minutes away when you needed them 15 seconds ago. With some exceptions, the police react to the crime after it has already been committed. Thanks to many of our political leaders there are far fewer police to attend to public safety. When you add in district attorney's who refuse to prosecute the offenders, you have the best recipe possible for a perfect storm of violence throughout the country.

4) Considering #s 1, 2, & 3, you obviously must now provide for your own safety. According to FBI statistics more homicides are committed by unarmed beatings than by any other means.
