The packed in ships comment called on a memory. The only thing Dad would share, in humor, about the war, was about being transported to North Africa . . . point of departure being Florida . . and how sea sickness was nearly universal. The only thing he could keep down was Neco Wafers candy. He never ate another Neco Wafer after that! He was in North Africa (Algeria) most of his time overseas. Being a Radar man, it seems those guys were the last to move forward, being left in a relatively secured area when there was forward movement.

The only reminiscent good memory he shares was how lovely the Almond and Apricot trees in Tunisia were when in bloom - it seems they may have stayed there a while, until the apricots were ready for harvesting. Apricots were his favorite fruit. Whenever we talked in the 90s he would update me about his apricot tree and the ongoing battle to keep the ants away from it.
