Also not mentioned here is the fact in 1801 that it was Thomas Jefferson that sent the Marines to Tripoli to rescue American hostages that were kidnapped on the high seas from the Barbary Pirates. One thing that gets overlooked and many are NOT aware of is the Barbary Pirates were Islamic Extremist who robbed on the high seas to support their Islamic beliefs including their right to murder and behead those not of their faith. President Thomas Jefferson took the effort read the Koran to understand their thinking and what His response should be. A large portion of the US Federal budget was being used to pay off the Barbary Pirate not to rob US ships. British ships and back when We ere still British colonies were NOT robbed as they knew the British would not pay any ransom and also react with force. Once We were no longer part of the British structure the new nation, the United States was now a prime target. President Jefferson decided We would no longer pay ransom and would respond with force and not only rescue the hostage but put the Islamic Extremist Barbary Pirate out of business which is exactly what He did.
It should also be noted that many years later in 1904 when President Theodore Roosevelt was President some remains of the Barbary Pirates again rose with that individual named Raisuli that set Himself up as a king at Tangier, Morocco on the North African nation on the Mediterranean Sea. Rasiluli, a former Barbary pirate and Islamic Extremist had driven the Sultan of Morroco into exile and seized the throne. This Islamic Extremist Rasuli and His followers held these kidnapped American's for ransom and made it clear Allah permitted they would all be beheaded if the ransom wasn't paid. President Theodore Roosevelt sent seven US Warships along with several companies of the US Marines who landed, fixe bayonets, and went directly to His palace, entered, killed all His guards and took Him right off His throne and He was executed. Rasuli became know as the last of the Barbary Pirates.
The problem with Islamic Extremist has of course again rose and continues but it seems no one has followed the example of Thomas Jefferson or Theodore Roosevelt to end the problem. Both understood use of force was the solution and anything less was seen as weakness by these extremist. Both knew they would agree to anything but their word could not be trusted but and avoiding force never worked with them and that was the ONLY solution that ever worked with them. This is also an area it seems that most American's are not even aware of it's History, well I have read that important piece of History.

Thomas Jefferson believed in an Empire of Liberty; pro-life from womb to tomb and; never spend what we don't have - living on credit is not a good idea.
Much-appreciated Dale for this valuable information at a time when we are tackling Roe v. Wade and the Dobbs decision. It appears the SC decision to undermine Roe v. Wade is embedded in the views of Thomas Jefferson, the author of the U.S. Declaration of Independence and the inspiration of the Bill of Rights that became the first ten amendments in our Constitution.

They need to do a real story on Lincoln to debunk some of the myths, he really wasn't that great of a person.
