Back in the summer of 2008, my unit was mobilized to go to provincial reconstruction team for Farah. Joining us what a large Navy contingent. Have our leadership was Navy. Our base commander was a Navy Commander.
During our training, I was able to get fire commands in a joint Humvee crew. The other three service members in my vehicle were all Navy enlisted. The Gunner was a cook E-5, the camera person was a petty officer E6 in intelligence , and the driver was an E4 petty officer.
This Crew had a blast. They were firing the 240 Bravo. 7.62 machine gun that replaced the M60 but I was trained on back in 1994. During basic training in military police, I was the M60 Gunner so it was real fun walking around with the machine gun and spare Barrel. Lots of fun!
We were fortunate that these Sailors never had to defend the base from their guard towers and our base was never assaulted by the enemy. Most of these Sailors had to pull some kind of guard Duty along with our Illinois National Guard infantry attached to our base in Afghanistan.
