If pay has not also risen much since then (2008) then it's not really a apples to oranges comparison. Fed. Min wage in 08 was $6.55, it increased the next year to $7.25

I was thinking along your same lines. Wages haven’t kept pace with inflation so even though gas prices in real terms are less than in 2008 the perception is worse because wages haven’t kept upanfd everything else is going up.
