2 ISU students identified as victims of deadly Ames church shooting

The two women were the victims of a “targeted act of violence” outside Cornerstone Church in Ames on Thursday, according to the Story County Sheriff’s Office. They’ve been identified as 22-year-old Eden Montang and 21-year-old Vivian Flores.
The shooting was reported just before 7 p.m., where 33-year-old Jonathan Lee Whitlach, of Boone, Iowa, pulled up to the church in a pickup truck. Whitlach reportedly pulled up to Montang, Flores and another woman and began shooting with a 9 mm handgun.
Montang and Flores were killed, Story County Sheriff Paul Fitzgerald said, and Whitlatch shot himself. The women were friends and students at Iowa State University who were walking together to the church for a weekly service that is popular with ISU and high school students, the sheriff said.
Whitlatch and Montang had recently broken up, Fitzgerald said, and Whitlatch was arrested on May 31 on counts of harassment and impersonating a police officer.
Details of the allegations against Whitlatch weren’t immediately available, Story County Capt. Nicholas Lennie said. Whitlatch was released on bond the same day he was arrested, Lennie said, and had been scheduled to appear in court on June 10.
A search of Whitlatch’s truck following the shooting turned up 9 mm ammunition and a receipt from a West Des Moines store that showed he bought the ammunition an hour before the shooting, Fitzgerald said. Investigators believe his intent was to kill Montang.
“He was there for a specific purpose, which he accomplished,” the sheriff said.
A search warrant executed at Whitlatch’s home also turned up an AR-15 rifle, which was not used in the shooting.

Yet another disgruntled angry male who wouldn't take no for an answer so he kills his former partner. Intimate partner violence is an extreme problem in this country and the majority is committed using guns.

SFC Kelly Fuerhoff of course there's sexism .. you're assuming the motive along sexual reasoning to further a political world view ... Only question is how can you have such intmate knowledge of motive without assumptions or hasty generalization?

Also stating the majority of domestic violence is committed with guns is a post hoc fallacy... You are correlating the fact that a majority of crime is committed with guns to this incident domestic viol nice to extrapolate that guns are the causality of domestic violence... However there is no correlation that the causality of domestic violence is in fact guns because guns happen to be a factor in the facilitation.
