Congresswoman who lost son to gun violence makes impassioned plea for action

Democratic Representative Lucy McBath of Georgia made an impassioned plea for Congress to act on gun violence, citing the shooting of her son.
Ms McBath’s words came during the House Judiciary Committee’s hearing on various pieces of gun legislation after the shooting in Uvalde, Texas killed 19 children and two adults. Ms McBath said she could empathise with parents in Uvalde who learned their children died.
“The phone call that confirms our fear, our singular fear that my child is dead, that I was unable to protect them” she said. “Because I know that phone call. Parents across the country know that phone call. It’s a sucker punch to my stomach every time I learn there’s another phone call.”
In 2012, Michael Dunn shot and killed Ms McBath’s son Jordan Davis, who is Black, at a gas station in Jacksonville after he told Mr Dunn, who is white, told Mr Davis to turn down rap music. Mr Dunn was later convicted of killing the 17-year-old.

PO1 Jeff Chandler Ah but it was about a militia. Back then there was a great deal of doubt about the federal government being able to stand up a functional army. So the founders laid it upon the states to arm and stand up militias but most states lacked the funds to arm so militia members brought their own arms. Even with that it wasn't until around a hundred years later that the Supreme Court interpreted that the wording meant every citizen could be armed.

Gun laws are seldom enforced, gun law violations are often the first thing bartered away in plea deal negotiations. I wish we enforced the 300 federal gun laws on the books. I predict what ever laws they pass will be equally ignored. I will believe they are serious when I see Hunter Biden before a judge for lying on the ATF form and the Secret Service dude trying to illegally confiscate the ATF. These are Felonies. When assault weapons are hard to get and the cartels can make money off them the assault weapons will be smuggled across the border.
