Residents in the Peoria Heights neighborhood came out to celebrate the Marines both active and the Veterans.
This Memorial Day ceremony was put on by the local American Legion Post #2.
Organizers say the emotions and meaning behind this holiday comes from knowing another veteran’s story.
“When I see another Veteran get emotional.. that’s usually triggers my emotions,” says Jim Ulrich, the Commander of the Peoria who served in the Marines Corps Reserve from 1969 to 1975. “When I think about all of the lives and how over all the years, Americans have been able to take the pledge to be a member of the armed forces of the united states and put their life on the line, that’s something.”
