It is all just rooted in hypocrisy and weaponizing government to punish people and companies that disagree with them. I bet they attempt to get this challenged in the Supreme Court.
The GOP has always favored the position that you can't compel someone to speak. One example is the Colorado baker who didn't want to make a cake for a same-sex marriage. Forcing him to do so would compel speech (or expression) and that has always been fundamentally understood to violate the First Amendment.
Furthermore, the GOP loves to treat companies as "people" in that companies can have protected political speech and can also make campaign donations. The problem the GOP has is that they simply disagree with the speech.
