All this leads to leadership, NCOs and Officers, plainly not enforcing the standards to their soldiers. But then again do soldiers not try to get away with shortcuts when not being watched? How do we as leaders stop stupidity and shortcuts?

Since when did they start putting seat belts in the gunner's position? As far as I know, there is no seat belt there and if the vehicle rolled, he most likely would have been crushed especially if he was strapped in the turret.
And I understand that some brass heads are going to roll, but why? The other four failed to follow directions and got hurt? Why punish the officers who apparently weren't riding in the vehicle at the time?

For the gunner...it's a safety harness strap system with a quick release. The article didn't say anyone was in the turret...at least not that I saw. And, as for heads rolling....the Leadership is gonna get lit up simply because this happened. Yes, ultimately the Soldiers in the vehicle are responsible for not wearing their seatbelts, but it's also the responsibility of the Leadership to make sure Soldiers know what they have to do IOT be safe. Plus, the Army likes to rip apart Leaders when stuff like this happens. Could be something as simple as an ass chewing, though. But it'll be a painful ass chewing.

MSG (Join to see) - They said he was in the gunner's seat, and that would be the turret position.
Beyond telling them they're required to wear their seat belts, WTF else is there to do? Are all soldiers so irresponsible that you have to have an officer go to each soldier and click their seat belt on each one individually? What happens when if they take it off afterwards?
If the OIC ran the unit and said he didn't give a shit about seat belts, that's one thing. But getting even an ass-chewing because someone who the officer probably didn't even see didn't have a seat belt on is batshit crazy. You can't continue to coddle people.
As far as the safety strap for the turret, never seen that. Our sure as hell didn't have a harness for the gunner to strap in with.

Sgt (Join to see) - Ah. Now I see it. That reference was to another death back in October.
