LGBTQ protections languish while Missouri lawmakers push transgender sports bans

Missouri law doesn’t prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity. Efforts to change that have failed for 24 years.
On one end of the Missouri Capitol last week, Sen. Greg Razer was making yet another unsuccessful attempt to convince his colleagues to enact legal protections in state law for LGBTQ Missourians.

“I’m still perceived as controversial,” Razer, a Kansas City Democrat who is one of just six openly LGBTQ lawmakers in the legislature and the only member in the Senate, said last week on the Senate floor.

Hours later across the rotunda in the House, Rep. Chuck Basye, R-Rocheport, was advancing a measure to allow voters to bar transgender girls from participating on girls’ sports teams in their school district.

Why do people think it is OK to give men an unfair advantage over women in women’s sports? The British Sports Council says you can either have fairness or inclusion, you can’t have both.

SFC Kelly Fuerhoff - I already demonstrated that Thomas is dominant in swimming as a women. Thomas was ranked as 60th as a male swimmer, as a female swimmer he is setting records. I brought up the British sports council because the British Sports council actually conducted studies, you know, science.
