While many want to focus on drug smuggling, we should remember that the starting contribution was from Purdue Pharma and billionaire Sackler family. They pushed doctors to prescribe their addictive drugs despite knowing the danger.

Trumpian BS in 3, 2, 1.... Yup Tricky Dick started it off, just add in some racism and the hate of hippies to give a face to it. And I know this is true as I lived thru this. But then, I also live thru Ronnie's BS of Narcoterrorism where is Contras were busy shipping drugs here as well. His policies all failed as well. But now, we even have corporate America in on it. Damn, isn't capitalism great!!! Even those blasted communists in China are engaging in capitalist drug smuggling.

Not impressive stats. Once corrections became an industry, arrests flew off the hook. https://drugpolicy.org/issues/drug-war-statistics?ms=5B1_22GoogleSEM&utm_source=GoogleSEM&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=SEM&cid=7011K000001SFcBQAW&gclid=CjwKCAiA8bqOBhANEiwA-sIlN0xW89935JOYmxdhsHPWoZhswNi9plQzCz5jfkVswS8WQjm_PD8A2xoCrWkQAvD_BwE
In 1971, Nixon declared a “War on Drugs," accelerating a war on our communities and causing tremendous loss: millions arrested, incarcerated, or under surveillance (particularly communities of color); hundreds of thousands lost in preventable overdose deaths; and billions of dollars spent on ineffective, fear-based policies.
