Kind of like terrain-following radar, but without the radar. Wonder how it would have done on land?

Given it had no 'jump over' capacity, the smallest hard obstruction would take it out. A very limited theater (oceans only and probably inland ones) a kind of plane that's an SSB concept typical of the Sovs. Huge thermal bloom, one heat seeker at maximum range would find it easily. Let's hope the Chinese think its a great idea for their little sea venture
