Most the places I was stationed You could have leave either on Christmas or New Years but not both. (Vietnam of course was the exception) If You weren't on leave it was a longer shift and a full week with no day off to man all the posts. If on leave You got a full week to include the vacation day. We all did get to request the week off You wanted and all the guys got what they asked for. The married guys wanted Christmas off and the single guys New Years and it worked out fine. No one screwed with us in those two weeks and Yes it did help moral. We did have some good Commanders that actually cared about their men and We did all get the job done properly and in an outstanding manner.
