And we wonder why the U.S. is so far behind so many other countries when it comes to education.

1. US is actually in competitive in global ranking despite not being number one
2. US deficiencies are likely due to disparity between rich and poor. Top performing students often come from well-funded public school districts or expensive private schools. Bottom performing students often come from public schools with fewer resources.

How Does the U.S. Compare in Global Education?
In terms of academic performance in key areas, such as math, science, and reading, students in the U.S. consistently perform near the middle of the pack.

LTC Eugene Chu - I agree. A lot of problems blamed on something else are based on the disparity among income brackets which also determins opportunity/lack of opportunity for the students. Good article too.

LTC Eugene Chu - Not sure what you call competitive, I just googled a few rankings, among 15 years olds the out of 79 countries the U.S. was 11th in science, and 30th in math, another study had the us 14 out of all the G-20 countries. Not exactly stellar.

That sounds ridiculous. I am all for letting students choose what they want to learn, but telling them It's OK not to learn is just retarded.
