During World War II, fighter directors protected fast carrier task forces from Japanese air threats while operating in the Pacific. During the Vietnam era, FDO were essential part of the Positive Identification Radar Advisory Zone (PIRAZ) to protect our aircraft carriers operating in Yankee Station as they launched airstrike against North Vietnam targets.
Like the FDOs in the past, the young Cryptologic Warfare Officer today should have the brainpower to visualize the changing tactical picture, in real-time, in order make precise recommendations to decision makers.
