You say that as if you have confidence that the police would have been vigilant enough to have stopped or prevented that theft. Its more likely they were off somewhere hassling some motorist for having a broken tag light.
I wish I still had the confidence you have. But sadly, I now know better. The cops I know (LAPD), are typically a day late, and a dollar short to these matters. Unless your window tint is a shade too dark. In that case, half the force will at your service.

LCpl Sidney Green - The cops you "know" have long had their hands tied by politicians who want to tie their hands. It's not so much either, that cops need retrained - society needs retrained to respect other peoples' rights and the law. When city "leaders" cut police budgets for no reason other than to satisfy those crying about the police, what does anyone expect?
We all know there are lousy cops, and even bad departments but at the rate some cities are going, they might as well just disband their police departments. The lawlessness that would ensue however would be more like pure anarchy. If citizens don't support and respect the police, then they are doomed to more crime. Yes, the bad police that we all hear so much about, need to be totally held accountable, but the riots that follow certainly do NOTHING for the citizens or businesses.
People need to start holding POLITICIANS accountable, as much or more than the police. It's a lack of leadership - particularly in Democrat run cities, and that cannot be denied. When they turn their backs on police ... or persecute and fire them for issues like making a $25 (twenty-five) dollar donation (Norfolk, VA) to Rittenhouse, the the police will ONLY do what they absolutely must.

Well I agree with the part about the politicians. They are like a growing cancer on society, and our problems all starts with them. Its because of them that the PD has grown as large as it has in the first place. When police have nothing to do, they can create criminality from all manner of petty reasons, such as road block check points. We should never see anything like the in the U.S. without a clear and valid reason.
Anyway, you seem to still be positive and trusting of the cops, and its not my intention to try and change that. However, I have no sympathy for them under the current climate of hate, since they have no one to blame but themselves. If they want the public to like them, and to improve the community relations and restore trust, then stop behaving like the Gestapo. Its all under their control.

Theft has become a trend in San Francisco, leading to companies like Walgreens to shut down numerous locations and other retailers to limit their hours of operation. Activists have pointed to the >>city leaders making the theft of items valued at less than $950 not a felony<< as a major factor in the rise in theft and its subsequent effect on businesses.

‘Changes’ for San Francisco after ‘horrible’ night of looting
San Francisco’s mayor and police chief have promised “changes” after a night of massive looting, a crime becoming more and more common in the city, and one that’s driving businesses away.

Looks like "organized crime" has come down to the level of shoplifters and smash-and-grab types. Wonder who the Don is.

Thieving becoming large scale in Dem-controlled, anti-police areas CW3 Harvey K.. I would not live in a lawless area like that. Plenty of other places one can be.

Sgt (Join to see) - I have a son who has lived there 20 years. It's a beautiful city, and a dream of natural beauty along the coast. About 7 years ago, on our last visit there, my wife and I came across a homeless person's "camp" in Alamo Square, across the street from the multi-million dollar "Painted Ladies".
We found the same sort of thing in Golden Gate Park, another of our favorite spots. That was the start of the present sad state of a grand, but horribly mismanaged city.

That's nothing new, it's the holiday season, watch for stories about crime rings hitting malls.
