Air Force and Army Preparing to Face Off in North Texas for Inaugural Lockheed Martin Commanders’ Classic, presented by USAA
Ryan Alford, Marketing Manager at Lockheed Martin previews with Ken Kraetzer of Sons of the American Legion Radio the Nov. 6th Army - Air Force Football game which will be played in Arlington Texas at Globe Life Field.
Game time Saturday is 11:30 AM EST 10:30 AM CST on CBS Network.
The game features Army Black Knights 4-3 on the season and the Air Force Falcons at 6-2. This is the 56th meeting in the rivalry which will be the first college football game played in the new home of the Texas Rangers Baseball team.

Medal of Honor Recipients
As part of the matchup’s special pre-game pageantry, six Medal of Honor recipients will be recognized on the field:
Field ceremonies will also include a Joint Service Color Guard presentation and a Joint Service Glee Club performance of the National Anthem.
Medal of Honor recipients who will be recognized include:
U.S. Army Major General Patrick Brady was a dustoff pilot during the Vietnam War. He earned the Medal of Honor for a series of daring rescues which began at sunrise and ended after dark.General Brady honorably served the U.S. Army for 34 years before his retirement.
U.S. Army Specialist Fourth Class Michael Fitzmaurice received the Medal of Honor for his gallantry during the Vietnam War. In the middle of a firefight, he smothered an enemy grenade with his flak jacket to shield his fellow soldiers. After the explosive wounded him, he continued to fight and refused medical evacuation until the battle was over.
U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Salvatore “Sal” Guinta distinguished himself during the War in Afghanistan. He earned the Medal of Honor for his gallantry during an ambush, preventing insurgents from carrying away a wounded American soldier.
U.S. Army Command Sergeant Major Robert Patterson was awarded the Medal of Honor for his bravery in the Vietnam War. In an assault on a North Vietnamese Army position, he singlehandedly destroyed five enemy bunkers and inspired his platoon to follow through on their attack.
U.S. Army Lt. Colonel William Swenson earned his Medal of Honor fighting in the War in Afghanistan. During the Battle of Ganjgal, he risked his life to save his comrades and recover bodies as coalition forces repulsed an ambush attack.
U.S. Army Sergeant Major Matthew Williams received the Medal of Honor for his heroism during the War in Afghanistan. In the Battle of Shok Valley, Williams braved insurgent fire as coalition forces faced down a much larger, entrenched enemy.
Greats of the Game:
Six legendary players and coaches from previous Army v. Air Force games will be recognized as part of the pre-game coin toss.
Pete Dawkins, Army – This Heisman Trophy winner and retired Brigadier General is the only West Point cadet ever to be First Captain, President of his class, Captain of the football team, and in the top 5 percent of his Class academically.
Chad Hennings, Air Force – The most-decorated football player in Air Force Academy history, winner of the 1987 Outland Trophy and a member of the College Football Hall of Fame, Hennings flew A-10’s during the first Gulf War before winning three Super Bowl titles with the Dallas Cowboys.
Gary Steele, Army – This Retired Colonel and 2nd Team All American was a dual-sport letterman in football and track and is a member of Army’s Sports Hall of Fame. Steele was West Point’s first African American to earn a varsity letter in football and was drafted by the Detroit Lions.
Spike Thomas, Air Force – an F-16 pilot who was shot down in Desert Storm, Thomas was decorated with the Distinguished Flying Cross for his missions during Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm. He is also a member of the Air Force Academy Athletic Hall of Fame and is one of only five consensus All-Americans in Air Force history.
Coach Jim Young, Army – A member of the College Football Hall of Fame, Coach Young led Army to six winning seasons as head coach, including three Commander-in-Chief’s Trophies and three post-season bowl appearances.
