Good info (and post). Adding a few Uwharrie-isms.
1. Math! Failure to *double-check* calculations. So many guys made simple math mistakes that if double-checked never would would have resulted in going off course.
2. *Integrate* and *crosscheck* the pace count, azimuth and terrain association along the way. That will help ensure you are heading in the right direction and if need be to *self correct* as you bust-a-move. Especially important at night as that large tree that was serving as an aiming point tends to disappear and when you look up again all the trees look alike.
3. The smartest route between point A and B isn’t always a direct line. Being in *killer* ruck shape can enable you —if the need arises— to add some extra distance to ensure a route that helps guarantee success.
