On September 15, 1938 Thomas Wolfe, American novelist, died of tuberculosis at the age of 37. An excerpt from the article:
"Thomas Wolfe was a notable American novelist from the early 20th century. He first attended the University of North Carolina and then Harvard University before moving to New York City in 1923. It was there that he wrote his most popular work, Look Homeward, Angel (1929), an autobiographical piece centering on his alter ego, Eugene Gant. Wolfe followed with four novels over the following eight years and had more than 10 works published after his untimely death in 1938."

Very sad. Although TB has been around forever and at times its death rates weren't much higher than what we see today with Covid. Vaccinations controlled TB because people feared it but it seems that many don't fear Covid so I'm worried that we may never control it like we did with TB.

The amount of great writers who had TB is startling. Everyone knows about Doc Holliday having TB, but who knows about Kafka, John Keats, Elizabeth Barrett Browning, Robert Louis Stevenson, Henry David Thoreau, Anne, Emily, and Charlotte Bronte, Anton Chekov, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Catullus, Robert Burns, Camus, Stephen Crane, and Maxim Gorky? A wretched disease. Thomas Mann wrote a novel, The Magic Mountain, ruminating on tuberculosis.
