Young People Are Anxious About Climate Change And Say Governments Are Failing Them

How are young people coping with climate change? The answer, according to one study, is not well, and for good reason.
For a forthcoming study, researchers with the U.K.'s University of Bath and other schools spoke to 10,000 people in 10 countries, all of whom were between the ages of 16 and 25, to gauge how they feel about climate change. The prevailing response could be summed up in two words: incredibly worried. And the respondents say governments aren't doing enough to combat climate change.

PO3 Phyllis Maynard no, I think idiot is an applicable title. An idealist has an understanding of what it is they are idealistic about, the disconnect is between the realistic outcome and the overly optimistic wished-for outcome of the idealist. These kids have no understanding of the topic in the first place, and they don't understand the impotence of government or multiple state governments to have any meaningful effect in this particular area.

Well said. SGT Joseph Gunderson However I do agree with PO3 Phyllis Maynard that idealist applies - particularly if there is any hope of adequately communicating with those young folks that they need to educate themselves.

PO1 William "Chip" Nagel I read into the vibe of the article more philosophy, emotion, and second hand thinking. I think if they could bring solid references to the table can bring a fresh appreciation for this age groups observations.

I can't get the link to load, however, from what is stated, it sounds like the general "feeling" is parroting Greta Thunberg's approach. And she did make an impression on that age group when they were much younger.
We can only hope young Greta has been reading science and taking classes so that she will have the knowledge to speak that young people want believe she has which, so far, has come across mainly as complaining about adults screwing up. But it really is not that simple. Like you said solid evidence is missing in the discussions.
Reading science and/or taking science classes can provide nuts and bolts insight - and result in being able to differentiate between political battles, and variables that scientists are debating which are missing in what is spoon fed as a political issue to the public.
Like every other topic - we have to want to know and make an effort to learn because so much of what we need to know is not taught, even in college. But in college at least there is opportunity to research and work with other folks of various backgrounds whose disciplines contribute to the big picture. It is vital to learn enough to draw one's own conclusions and defend them rather than only parrot secondhand thinking.
