Army Coach Jeff Monken comments post 43-10 season opening Win at Georgia State in Atlanta the 50th Win of his eight year career at West Point.
Six different Army players scored in the game and the defense generated two turnover, had six tackles for loss, and held GSU to just 177 yards of offense. Cole Talley added a 22 yard field goal in 4Q.
Offensively Army rushed for 258 yards led by 58 yards rushing by QB Christian Anderson who went in after starter Tyhier Tyler went out with a leg injury. Rushing TDs were scored by Tyson Riley in the 1Q on a 4 yard run, AJ Howard on a tough 4 yard run tucking ball inside pylon in corner of end zone also in 1Q, Jakobi Buchanan scored on a 2 yard run in 2Q, and Anderson closed out a drive in 2Q with a 4th down 2 Yard run.
Anderson threw the first of Army TD passes a 40 yard pass to Tyrell Robinson early in the #Q, later Jemel Jones came in at QB and threw a 32 yard TD pass to Braheam Murphy.
LB Arik Smith made a 1Q fumble recovery which set up the Tyson Riley score. Jabari Moore stepped in front of GSU receiver late in 2Q to set up Christian Anderson TD run. CB Julian McDuffie was the leading tackler on with 3 solos -2 Assists 5 total as did LB Smith 3-2-5, Apache LB Malkelm Morrison had 3-1-4 as did Safety Marquel Broughton 4-0-4, and DT Kwabena Bonzu 2-2-4.
Army defense had six tackles for loss led by LB Andre Carter with three generating 20 yards in losses for GSU, also with TFLs were Arik Smith, Marquel Broughton and Kwabena Bonsu.
Black Knights return home to Michie Stadium on September 11th to face Western Kentucky.
