Lt Col John (Jack) Christensen: I'm passing on the pizza, lettuce, watermelon, ice cream sandwich and hand pies. Hand pies and pizza can be done in an outdoor oven but they are a mess on the grill. Somehow the rest on that list don't even appeal to me.
I've actually done the grilled salsa, guacamole, peaches, pound cake, Mexican street corn, etc. It's all really good, especially the veggies for salsa and guacamole. As far as using cast iron skillets to make cobblers/pies on the grill, it's not as time consuming as one thinks but it's tricky to get it right for baking the toping/pie shell. Totally worth putting in the outdoor oven though.

Lt Col John (Jack) Christensen - I wonder where they come up with some of these "ideas" for grilling. Do they have nothing better to do with their time than think, yeah grilled watermelon! Meh.

Grilling it is almost as good as eating it in good company. I've tried a few veggies, not bad. Mostly burgers, hot dogs, and occasional ribeye. Breakfast camping is hard to beat, same as the rest. I liked the Grote & Weigel franks in CT. Have to settle for Nathan's due to locale. Esposito Bros. in NYC have decent sausages. One almost needs a griddle for some foods, like veggies and fish.

Now there's a frank brand I haven't seen in decades, since I was a kid in CT I guess!
