You're but I see a influx of massive resignations coming and along a massive influx of early retirements. Unlike the military Civil servants can quit. I know people who may quit if we're forced to come back full-time in office after a year plus of maximum telework capacity. Those who don't wanna come back won't put up with this.

PFC (Join to see) - There's probably a lot of truth in that, but that result is not unique to government. The same thing is happening in academia, and in the health industry, and in many other workplace settings. It's a new world, and the workplace won't return to its pre-pandemic model. On another note, a conspiracy theorist might say that Biden is just making a veiled attempt to cull the herd of people who don't align with his political views.

LTC Kevin B. You are right again, however OPM and OBM are both recommending that agencies keep transpancery with new telework agreements to come that agencies release to their workers. It's a win win honestly for those who have been working in office since they were called back last summer and allows those who have been teleworking to stay home and only go back as needed. My agency hasn't released guidance yet for the transition they plan to soon. My local management is assuming a hybrid model is coming where we are in the office no more than two days a week. Personally I'm perfectly fine with that myself but unlike the other areas of employment you mentioned the government takes forever to refill roles when it comes to hiring. I don't even have a security clearance my role doesn't require it and I still had to wait 6 months from vacancy closure to orientation. If we have many retire or resign it will even create even more of a backlog of work to add to what the pandemic created. We will however see what comes to pass.

PFC (Join to see) - My brother works in the intel field as a GS. If he were to quit, it would probably take forever to backfill him. Actions have consequences, and sometimes they are completely unintended. If it comes to that (massive turnover and difficulty backfilling), Biden will have to suffer the consequences of his decision.

I'd be interested to see where some of the civil service unions stand on this. I certainly had WGs at a few different bases that would have made a stink with the unions about this.
