Good question. I answered one like that yesterday. I understand the reasons why he did it, but I don't agree with how he did it. Some people can't deal with mangled bodies.

There's dealing with mangled bodies and then there's dealing with people treating mangled bodies like some sort of video game, SFC Randy Hellenbrand.
I got the impression that author was understating how profound an epiphany the "war porn" incident was.

Like Chelsea Manning and Edward Snowden before him, it's good to see that people are standing up to the worst abuses of our empire.

Snowden made a conscious decision, SPC Jesse Davis. PFC Manning was more likely manipulated by folks with their own agenda (and little concern for Manning's fate).

1LT William Clardy Manipulated by whom? She never should have made it through basic. Then she was in the worst S2 shop ever.
Manning is no hero not did anything positive. No one manipulated her either.

He’s in a tough spot. Reading the article it doesn’t appear to be espionage. He released what he thought was pertinent information for the American people to know but he’s charged with espionage and can’t even voice that in his defense. The government has him by the short hairs with that charge. Should he be charged? Probably. Is it espionage? That’s a stretch but the government is really good and changing the definition of a word to suit their needs. He’s most likely going away for 11 years.

Not sure on the number of years, but I suspect you're correct. Outside of Hollywood, civil disobedience isn'a no-cost option, even when it's morally justifiable.
It is a shame that what he was trying to make the public aware of is still getting buried on today's equivalent of below the fold on an inside page.
