Black World War II vet, 99, finally awarded Purple Heart after being overlooked due to race

Good news, glad it finally happened.
Sadly there are many service members of the Second World War that won't be honored due to a variety of factors combined with records fires and finally time, we're running out.
I shared this with my unit, part of the extra task of unit historian and social media management at least I think is not just your own units accomplishments but raising awareness about other important ones as well.
I remember a SNCO telling his troops to stop asking when awards would populate when WWII Vets still haven't received there's. Patience was the lesson; that's what my SGT told us, be patient but don't forget to ask. That said, just because the Army is bad at something doesn't mean we should laud it as normal.
